AND improves critical thinking patterns that enable:
productive self-belief,
confidence,
and
the passionate life-long pursuit of continuous improvement.

AND

We fully integrate elements of Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling
with Folkstyle to turn your wrestlers into

How We Develop Champions

  • Providing access to currently competing and decorated wrestlers in USAW & United World Wrestling.
  • Providing access to a current member of the US Wrestling Hall of Fame.
  • Providing access to encouraging coaches, staff, and role models for your wrestler.
  • Providing a healthy approach to coaching on leadership, mindset, and life skills for success on & off the mat. This alone has life-long benefits for your wrestler.
  • Providing exercise... with a side bonus of expending excess energy in your youngest ones.

(Gentle management of expectations: We are not a childcare provider or babysitting service. If you are seeking said service, your money will be refunded on a pro-rated basis and your child returned with an economy-sized bag of Skittles and a 1-liter bottle of generic-brand caffeinated soda.)

  • Building a quiet, determined self-confidence.
  • Building a functional respect for self, others, and authority.
  • Teaching self-defense and discernment.
  • Fostering humility, discipline, and self-control.
  • Instilling critical thinking.
  • And then there's always bringing the fun, friends, & training partners to raise up the best in your wrestler.

What Parents & Wrestlers Say

about Coach Peter Hammer...

Athlete photo

Maurica Franklin

Mother to Lucas & Bodie Franklin

Both of my boys work extremely hard and have great coaches in their corner. I know both of them are exactly where they need to be. We drive 2 hours roundtrip a few times per week to attend practice in Madill. It's worth it. The coaches are committed 110%. My boys see that and match their energy.

Additionally, we are fortunate for how Coach Hammer is opening up new opportunities for all of the club kids! I know both of my boys are excelling quickly. The game changer to their performance is the respect they both have for their coaches.

Lucas Franklin - 16U 285lb

2025 USAOKW Triple Crown Winner - Folk, Free & Greco
2025 USMC Junior Nationals - Fargo Qualifier in Free & Greco

Working with Coach Peter Hammer was one of the best moves for me in furthering my wrestling career. My coaches believe in me and push me to be my best. I'm grateful that they expect nothing less. Confidence is key. Combining knowledgeable coaching with my own determination, I believe the sky is the limit.

Athlete photo

Bodie Franklin - 10U 93lb

2025 USAOKW Freestyle and Greco State Champ

I appreciate all of my coaches so much. They've helped me through a lot this year. I finally won my first state championships. And, both were on the same day. I've never done that before. I think practice can be tough sometimes, but it's also fun. We're always working to be better wrestlers and to be mentally tough. I'm glad I have my coaches. I think they try to help me be the best me I can be.

Gina Vaughn

Coach Hammer's support and optimism for Gage is wonderful! His willingness to be available for her wrestling needs is and will be a great asset. We are extremely appreciative to have it.

Kelsey Brown

We're so thankful to Coach Peter Hammer for bringing Freestyle & Greco to Madill... and ultimately Madill's wrestling program. He's shared so much knowledge with these young wrestlers and opened up incredible new opportunities for them.

Hollie Barnes

Mother to Triston Barnes
2x State Qualifier (120lbs) - Folkstyle
State Placer - Pole Vault
3x State Team Qualifier - Cross Country

We are blessed to know Coach Hammer as Triston's main coach and most importantly as our friend. We are so beyond proud of Hammer for what he brings to this sport as a competitive wrestler and coach. He leads by example in strength, conditioning, diet, and performance practice while still competing. My family is amazed at all that he has achieved and all that he has done for our wrestlers here in Madill in just 10 months.

The Coaches Putting Your High-Performers First

  • Peter Hammer

Head Coach of Folkstyle, Freestyle & Greco-Roman Wrestling

Peter was 6 years old when he hit rock bottom in a 3rd World Orphanage... only to use that pivotal moment to become an Olympic hopeful and lead others to their own successes on and off the mat.

Peter is currently the reigning National Champ of Costa Rica in Freestyle Wrestling at 57kg and was the Olympic Alternate for the entire Pan-American Zone for the Paris 2024 Olympics. He is currently ranked 47th in the World over 2 weight classes combined by United World Wrestling and is a 7x International Medalist. After just missing the Paris Olympics, Peter has his sights set on representing Costa Rica in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

He achieved a personal best for himself with a 19th place ranking at the 2024 Senior World Championships in Tirana, Albania... performing the best low single of his career and scoring a solid takedown on the reigning European Champ.

Prior to his wrestling comeback, Peter was a Peak Performance Strategist to corporate professionals. His focus was and still is on Mindset and Performance Thinking, as someone who works on the daily mastery of his own neurodiversity. Realizing that his calling was to instill great mindset and leadership skills in today's youth, rather than breaking bad habits in unmotivated adults... Peter switched his attention to providing a firm foundation for those most in need.

Peter is blessed and honored to have been coached by the finest coaches in wrestling. Those coaches include Roger Frizzell, John Smith, Andre Metzger, Zach Esposito, Jamill Kelly, and Kenny Monday.

His Freestyle Wrestling Medals and Accolades include:
    • Bronze - 2025 XXIII Grand Prix of Spain (57kg) in Madrid; History-making event for Costa Rican Wrestling History. No Costa Rican prior has medaled in Spain.
    • 5th Place - 2025 Pan-American Championships (Monterrey, MEX)
    • Gold & National Champion - 2024 Campeonato Internacional de Copa (57kg) in Costa Rica
    • Silver - 2024 Campeonato Internacional de Copa (65kg) in Costa Rica
    • Bronze - 2024 Citta di Sassari Matteo Pellicone Memorial (57kg) in Italy
    • Gold - 2024 Pat Shaw Memorial (57kg) in Guatemala
    • Bronze - 2024 Pat Shaw Memorial (61kg) in Guatemala
    • Bronze - 2024 Pan-American Olympic Qualifier (Acapulco, MEX)
    • 7th Place - 2024 Pan-American Championships (Acapulco, MEX)
    • 2nd Place - 2022 USMC Open National Freestyle Championships (Masters Division) in 62kg Freestyle
    • Texas State Freestyle Champion (Private School)

His Folkstyle Wrestling Medals and Accolades include:
    • 2nd Place - 2022 USMC Open National Folkstyle Championships (Masters Division) wrestling 62kg in the 78kg weight class
    • 3x Texas State Folkstyle Champion (Private School)
    • 2x Fargo Qualifier

    His Greco-Roman Wrestling Accolades include:

    • Texas State Greco-Roman Champion - Fargo Qualifier

    His Beach Wrestling Accolades include:

    • 5th Place Team Trophy - 29th Sardinia Beach Wrestling Tournament in Stintino wrestling 57kg in the 74kg weight class

Peter has 2 Bachelors degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Spanish, as well as 2 Minors in Mechanical/Energy Engineering and Mathematics.

We couldn't think of a more well-rounded, empathetic, and talented leader to be our Head Coach of Folkstyle, Freestyle & Greco-Roman Wrestling.

  • Roger Frizzell

    Special Guest Clinician

Roger Frizzell is recognized in the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame with the Outstanding American Award for his achievements in wrestling and business.

As a wrestler, Roger was a 4x All-American for OU, placing 4th at the NCAA tournament as a freshman and 3rd each of his consecutive seasons after. Upon graduation, Roger set OU's record for most career wins and is still in the top 10 for most pins.

His other wrestling medals and accolades include:
Silver - US Senior Freestyle Championships
Bronze - US Senior Freestyle Championships
Bronze - Junior World Freestyle Championships
Silver - US World University Championships
    3x OK State Champion

Roger's greatest success came during his corporate career after his time on the mat. He was the Chief Communications Officer and VP of Corporate Communications for American Airlines, as well as for Carnival Corporation. He has also been an integral part of operations for AT&T, Hewlett Packard, and Compaq. As a result, Roger has earned more than 200 industry awards for excellence during his career.

In his retirement, Roger happily devotes his time, energy, and extensive experience mentoring and coaching wrestlers of all ages. We are thrilled and honored to have Roger join us any time he can at the Madill Takedown Club.

  • Mirzo Khayitov

    Special Guest Clinician

Mirzo is currently competing at 74kg on the international circuit with the Cowboy RTC of Oklahoma State University and Uzbekistan. He is a 2x NJCAA All-American and 7x Uzbekistan National Champion. Mirzo made Uzbek history in becoming their only wrestler to win consecutive national titles. Additionally, he is on the Senior World Team and Senior Asian Team.

Recently, Mirzo took Silver at an Invitational World All-Star Tournament wrestling against some of the biggest names in International Freestyle... and Bronze at the 2024 Bill Farrell Memorial. He is working his way to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics representing Uzbekistan.

Mirzo was raised within the Russian school of freestyle wrestling technique. Russian training emphasizes technical precision, decisive setups, and leveraging opponents' position against themselves. The focus is on complex grips and drills that replicate real-time match scenarios. In terms of strength and conditioning, this school of wrestling utilizes bodyweight movements for power and endurance.

We are elated to have Mirzo share a bit of his time and expertise with us, as he is a highly sought-after Division 1 collegiate clinician and coach.
